Smoky, tarry and intensely leathery - cade is one of the most arresting base notes in natural perfumery. Dry-distilled from the wood and twigs of Juniperus oxycedrus, it carries a dark, phenolic smokiness with burnt wood, tobacco and leather facets and a subtle sweet undertone. Used sparingly, it adds extraordinary depth and an almost primal character to woody, leather and fougère compositions.
